Meaning Match privacy policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Meaning Match is a Shopify app made by Jeffers-Seven Labs ("we" or "us"). It improves an online store's search so shoppers can find products by meaning. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, how long we keep it, and how to contact us. The current version is always at https://meaning-match-rank.fly.dev/privacy.
Information we get from Shopify
When a merchant installs Meaning Match and syncs products, the app reads the following through Shopify's Admin API. Only active, published products are read.
- product ID, title, and handle (the last part of the product's web address)
- product description
- product type, lowest variant price, and whether the product is in stock
- featured image URL
- the store's myshopify.com domain and currency
- whether the store is a development store, and the status of the Meaning Match subscription (used for billing through Shopify)
Shopify also sends Meaning Match a notification (webhook) when a product is created, updated, or deleted, with the same kinds of product fields, so search stays current.
Meaning Match does not read customer records, orders, checkouts, payment details, or shopper accounts.
Information from merchants
Merchants don't create a separate account. Sign-in is handled by Shopify. If you email us for support, we use your message and email address only to reply to you.
Information from shoppers
When a shopper searches a store that uses Meaning Match, the search words and the store's domain are sent to our server to find matching products. Most requests pass through Shopify's app proxy on the store's own domain, which signs each request so we know which store it came from. We use the search words only to return results. We don't save them, link them to a person, or use them for advertising.
As with any website, a shopper's IP address and browser details reach Shopify and our hosting provider when the search request is made. To protect the service from abuse, our server keeps a short-lived count of requests per IP address in memory for rate limiting. It isn't written to disk, logged, or used for anything else. The app doesn't set cookies and doesn't use tracking or advertising pixels.
How we use information
Meaning Match turns each product's title, product type, and description into numbers that describe its meaning, so a search can match products that use different words. This runs on our own server. Product information is not sent to outside AI services.
We store those numbers with the product's ID, title, handle, product type, description, price, stock status, and image URL, so searches don't have to read the whole catalog from Shopify each time. We use this information only to provide Meaning Match. We don't sell or rent it, and we don't share it for advertising.
Where information is stored
Product information is stored on servers we run with our hosting provider, Fly.io, in the United States (Ashburn, Virginia). Billing is handled by Shopify. Shopify Admin API access tokens, and the refresh tokens Shopify issues to renew them, are kept only in server memory. They are never written to disk, they are discarded when the server restarts or the app is uninstalled, and access tokens expire about an hour after they are issued.
How long we keep information
- Product information is kept while Meaning Match is installed. It's replaced when products are synced again. A product is removed when it is deleted, set to draft, or unpublished in Shopify.
- When a merchant uninstalls Meaning Match, we delete that store's product information as soon as Shopify tells us about the uninstall. We delete it again, if anything remains, when Shopify sends its store data erasure request.
- Automatic disk snapshots kept by our hosting provider may hold deleted information for a few more days before they expire.
- Because Meaning Match stores no customer information, Shopify's customer data requests and customer erasure requests have nothing to return or delete.
Your choices and rights
Merchants can email us at any time to ask for a copy of the information we hold for their store, or to ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Shoppers can contact the store they shopped with, and we will help the merchant respond.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we'll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
